Notes on art matters and encouraging others

After spending many years in the Caribbean, sailing and scuba diving, I enjoy bringing back memories by painting the nuances of blues, the depth of the ocean and the textures of the underwater. 

 

I challenge myself in trying new tools to paint with. For instance, in this painting, I used sponges, hair cone, small broom, bubble wrap, tissue paper, duster chiffon, and even a window squeegee!! After a fun time underpainting, I resolve and edit my work into a successful composition.  When using unusual tools, the work seems to respond in unexpected ways, and brings surprising results. See step 1 and 2 below.

I am getting ready to leave on a mission trip to Peru. I am hoping to come back with new inspirations. I will keep you posted on this adventure. Stay tuned!
